One Man's Paradise

A fire in the sky…

This is not the Lake Geneva shoreline…
Frank Zappa and the Mothers weren’t here…

but this I know we’ll never forget
smoke on the water, a fire in the sky

sea

Finally, a perfectly clear night with no wind and there they were. The magic waves, curtains, rays and flashes, so hard to describe…

    • Thank you. There is also a component of planning involved… Spending the winter in Alaska, watching the hourly aurora forecast, driving to an unobstructed view point at midnight, waiting for hours in the cold… But you are right, with mother Nature there is always an element of luck involve and I was happy to see it. Sometimes I looked up to see small emissions that are impossible to photograph. They made me smile.

  1. Ahhh Yes, with thanks to ‘Deep Purple’, eh..? Looks like you did see some great aurora. Up here its been clear the last few evenings but that moon has been so bright it just overpowers most of the displays. Kinda sad because within another few months we’ll have to wait until early September to again catch ‘Mother Nature’s Light Show’…

    • That’s right…
We are also at the end of a 12 year cycle, I believe, so the aurora is winding down, statistically…
I thought the aurora sightings are usually better up north. I guess, we were lucky.
