First Snow in the Valley

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”

The absence of colors during this first brush with winter is striking. Just a few days ago we had azure skies, golden leaves, and a green lawn.

This morning we woke up to gently falling snow flakes and a gray sky. It seems early. Will it stick? Or is this just a spell of winter weather?

What kind of winter will we have? I wish for tons of snow early, no wind, and then the bog freeze. That makes for good skiing and low avalanche danger. It also makes for lots of snow shoveling, difficult driving and numb fingertips. Exactly!

  1. I wish for lots of snow-kissed mountain scenes from one of my favourite bloggers. I don’t know what it is about snow, but I’m always drawn to it as though it is my natural home.

I may live in Melbourne, (the most liveable city in the world for the 6th year running), but I’d love a little snow instead of the gale force winds we’ve been having a lot of lately.

(BTW I think you might like some of Adrian’s images of Iceland athttps://cornwallphotographic.com/2016/10/07/its-nice-when/ I’ve followed him from when he first had to retire and started Photography with some stunning images of the coast in Cornwall to some of his many visits to Iceland. I believe he’s just bought out a book of Iceland in photos. I love his minimal approach to ice and snow which I’m sure you would enjoy also).

    • Thank you Vicki. I will check out Adrian’s book. You are welcome to come over and shovel some snow 🙂
Seriously, I loved that first spell of winter weather.

What happened to the Like button? Wanted to like a few posts but can’t see it. Love the snow updates, your photos are lovely!

      • It’s not my settings. I know for sure. Once in a while I get a like, so it’s possible. Look for a little star in them top left corner . That’s where I sometimes find it in other blogs.
