One Man's Paradise

Beauty below Zero

“In the depth of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.”

Albert Camus

Today was one of those days. After a clear night, almost full moon, the temperature had dropped below zero Fahrenheit. It may have been a drag to work outside before sunrise to take care of the dogs, but then winter had created beautiful surprises for us on our window panes. A garden of flowers and leaves came to life in the early morning light.

Life was good. And still is.

They say no two snowflakes are alike. I believe the same can be said about ice flowers.

-23°F

As a newbie to Northern climates I am still fascinated with the low temperatures. I am sure that will subside, soon. Especially since we have now ice flowers not only in the unheated buildings, but also in my bathroom. It must be cold outside. A cold that is slowly creeping inside.

first daylight…

Nonetheless, there is beauty to these creatures.

... then ...

a hint of colors

In Tok they had -46°F tonight. The cold spell comes with exceptionally clear nights, a full moon, and luckily little wind. I am surprised how well these rubber bunny boots work. Thank God also for Polartec®.

...finally

a few more moments and the sun will rise – daylight, yes!

Looking forward to another stellar day in paradise.
