Waterfall ~ β„– 2

β€œThe only way to make sense out of change
is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”

Alan W. Watts

I keep finding interesting quotes by Mr Watts. He was experimenting with drugs, religion, and marriage?

Oh well, I was experimenting with photography, long shutter speed photography to be exact. I had seen images by landscape photographers using long shutter speeds to blur the motion of water (and clouds and other objects). So I purchased a neutral density filter and carried a tripod with me on my daily excursion. And here are the results…

For the next few days I’ll post images that show water in motion. If you have a fitting quote going with that theme, let me know.

A word from Socrates

“Strong minds discuss ideas,

average minds discuss events,

weak minds discuss people.”

Did Socrates have our media or god forbid our society in mind?

Not to discuss Socrates, here are just a few tidbits about him straight from Wikipedia:

Apparently he never wrote a single phrase. He left it to Plato to tell us about his philosophy.

“I know that I know nothing” is probably the most famous quote attributed to him.

He was morally, intellectually, and politically at odds with many of his fellow Athenians. He told them they were concerned with their families, careers, and political responsibilities when they ought to be worried about the “welfare of their souls”. He believed people should focus on the pursuit of virtue rather than the pursuit of material wealth. What a forward thinking chap.

In the end he was prosecuted and found guilty of both corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens and of impiety. His sentence was death by drinking a mixture containing poison hemlock.
