Words of wisdom – № 3

“Everyone should have themselves regularly overwhelmed by nature.”

George Harrison

I read today another mega mall is being built in New Jersey with 400 stores and the first indoor skiing area in the Western hemisphere. Really?

One of these days we’ll have the whole planet covered with concrete and steel…

I got up this morning before sunrise and watched the mountains come to life. Even my cold toes and ear lobes were overwhelmed by the amazing display of light and shadow. We don’t see the sun every day this time of the year. And the same scenery won’t repeat itself.

I believe that contributes to the amazement.

Here is to you, George.

A word from Socrates

“Strong minds discuss ideas,

average minds discuss events,

weak minds discuss people.”

Did Socrates have our media or god forbid our society in mind?

Not to discuss Socrates, here are just a few tidbits about him straight from Wikipedia:

Apparently he never wrote a single phrase. He left it to Plato to tell us about his philosophy.

“I know that I know nothing” is probably the most famous quote attributed to him.

He was morally, intellectually, and politically at odds with many of his fellow Athenians. He told them they were concerned with their families, careers, and political responsibilities when they ought to be worried about the “welfare of their souls”. He believed people should focus on the pursuit of virtue rather than the pursuit of material wealth. What a forward thinking chap.

In the end he was prosecuted and found guilty of both corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens and of impiety. His sentence was death by drinking a mixture containing poison hemlock.

“Leave it to me, as I find a way to be.
Consider me a satellite forever orbiting.
I know all the rules but the rules did not know me.”
Eddie Vedder

This is one of the nuggets you can find on the wonderful soundtrack to “Into the Wild”. Another great song is “Society“. Eddie found telling language and soothing music to accompany the life and death of Chris McCandless. I have read the book, watched the movie, hiked to bus #142 on the Stampede trail, and keep reading what people have to say about the adventures and the lifestyle of Chris.

I am sure he did not seek fame nor fortune. He followed his dream and made it to Alaska on his own terms. He did not seek safety nor guarantees.

Leave it to me, as I find a way …

Consider me a satellite

Consider me a satellite…

I know the rules...

I know the rules…

“You do not attract what you want.
You attract what you are.”

Wayne Dyer

Today I spent way too much time online. In the end, neither news nor gossip really mattered, because they did not speak to me. They did not touch my heart nor my soul.

Until I read the above quote of the day. That hit home.

I think, I end here. No need to dilute the truth.

Inside Out

Where to?

“I don’t know where I am going,
but I am on my way.”

Good advice from a brilliant mind. To the point, with a few choice words. Even I can remember that message.

I am at the halfway point with my sojourn as a dog musher. Is it time to look for the next gig already? Where will it lead me? Who will I meet? Not to worry. Life has a plan for me and it will fall into place when the time comes.

There was a time in my life, where everything was “planned”. It was constant hard work, worries, and sweat. An ordinary life.

Then I realized it does not have to be that way. Aspirations and goals are good. Curve balls and forks in the road are parts of life, when taken lightly, they can lead to an extraordinary life.

Inside Out

“The purpose of life is…

to enjoy every moment.”

just another magic moment

just another magic moment

I always felt steeping tea is more… inspirational,

than brewing coffee.

Found the above quote attached to my tea bag.

I think, I rest my case.

What more is there to write about?

The purpose of life is…
